From the French Quarter of New Orleans to the streets of Wellington, the soul of traditional New Orleans music is infectious.
The Richter City Rebels have a sound that blends RnB, soul, hip-hop, jazz and funk with the heart and soul of New Orleans brass band music. Trumpets, trombones, saxes, sousaphone, and percussion join forces to bring the ultimate Mardi Gras party to any venue or festival. Incorporating original compositions, funked-up pop tunes and hip-hop, the Rebels’ sound embodies the musical melting pot of Louisiana.
The 9-piece band has an all-star line-up with members from diverse groups such as The Rodger Fox Big Band, Hollie Smith, Raw Collective, NZ Symphony Orchestra, The Troubles, the Royal NZ Airforce Band and hardcore band Saving Grace. Their energetic show has recently headlined at events including the Wellington Jazz Festival, Tora Tora Tora, Taranaki Arts Festival, National Jazz Festival, CubaDupa, and Meridian Gardens Magic. Crowds line up for their monthly residency at popular Wellington venue Havana, and they also tour New Zealand regularly.
Their first live album Rebels Take Havana was released in 2012, a year after their inception. This was followed by a much-anticipated studio recording We Do It Like That. 2016 saw another live release, Live At Tora, capturing their headlining performance at Tora Tora Tora Festival. Their albums are used in bars and on radio stations around the country, including Radio New Zealand.
Energy, entertainment, and musicianship of the highest quality: the Richter City Rebels guarantee a rousing New Orleans experience.
