River City Jazzmen
Based in Christchurch, this sextet of musicians who focus on the best of the Dixieland standards, have been performing together for over six years and, in a former incarnation, have twice visited Nelson as ‘Red Hot & Dixie’.
The line-up has a new member joining the group to make for a tighter than ever swinging band of dedicated jazz-lovers.
Tony and Neill, as young students, were members of the River City Stompers who recorded six programmes for national radio in 1964. Only too keen to revisit those halcyon days, they have managed to assemble a happy crew of similar-minded musicians to carry on the Dixie initiatives of the exciting 60’s!
Alan Hawes – clarinet, soprano and tenor saxophones, Tony Lewis – trombone, Neill Pickard – banjo, guitar & vocals, Dave Pitt – acoustic bass,
